Since the first Salute in 1984, we have honored more than 200 YWCA Academy Women, from Rosalynn Carter to Gladys Knight.
Salute is also the YWCA's only major fundraiser. Through donations received from individuals and corporations like our Salute 2008 Angel sponsor, AirTran Airways, our year-round programs will receive the support needed to thrive and expand. Last year alone, the YWCA of Greater Atlanta helped more than 1,400 children receive quality child care, provided 660 teenagers with mentoring and peer education, and empowered more than 325 mothers of young children to find a home and a job.
Clearly, since Salute began 25 years ago, YWCA programs have grown in quality and quantity, and there is much to celebrate—but this is no time to be complacent. These are prosperous times for some, yet challenging times for others in Atlanta—and with your support of Salute 2009 we can continue to make a difference in the lives of many.
